The Mid Ulster Branch Annual Malaysian Remembrance Service took place at St Gobhan’s Parish Church, Seagoe, Portadown on Sunday 21st June 2015.
Those who lost their lives in the two campaigns of 1948-1960 and 1962-1966 were remembered by the congregation.
The service was led by our benefactor Reverend Canon Terence Cadden supported by our Branch Chaplain Reverend Andrew Rawding, who delivered a sermon that had the rapt attention of all present.
The Lord Mayor of Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon, Councillor Darryn Causby read an historical address.
The lessons were read by guests HM’s Deputy Lord Lieutenant Colonel Hubert McAllister OBE OStJ TD DL and Air Vice Marshall David Niven CB CBE ADC, Senior Air Officer Northern Ireland. Right Honourable Jim Shannon MP kindly read the NMBVA Prayer.
The most moving and emotional part of the service was the superb singing of
“Requiem for a Soldier”, by Jamaican opera singer Ms Clover Watts who left many of us with tearful eyes and a lump in our throats by her most sensitive rendition.
Mr Ron Moore our Branch Chairman read the Exhortation.
We thank all of our guests, including Brenda Hale MLA, Mrs Sarah Waugh Regional Manager RAFA(NI), Mrs Liz Brown ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, 817 (Lisburn) Air Training Corps, the Select Vestry and the Seagoe Ladies who kindly laid on an excellent luncheon after the service.
