14th July 1946 – 30th September 2017
We regret the very sad loss of Mid Ulster Branch Member John Hunter who lost his fight with
cancer at the Craigavon Area Hospital whilst undergoing treatment.
John was an ebullient character, full of fun and in the words of our Patron, Lt Col Huw Morgan,
“I was very deeply sorry to hear of John’s death; he was a dear man and had a kind soul. I know that he will be missed by his many friends in the NMBVA. My thoughts will be with his family and his many friends on that day and I am saddened that I cannot be there to mark his passing and celebrate his life. “
There was a packed St Mathew’s Church, Scarva, Co. Down for John’s funeral where our Chaplain Reverend Andrew Rawding gave a very moving eulogy for the life and public service given, to the Royal Navy, the Royal Ulster Constabulary GC, and the HM Prison Service of Northern Ireland, the community with his care for others and his warm engaging friendship. He will be remembered as a raconteur with an arsenal of stories and facts.
John Hunter was given full military honours by The Submariners’ Association (Ireland) and the Mid Ulster Branch NMBVA with his coffin draped with the Royal Navy Ensign.
Most sincere condolences are given to his widow Adrienne and her large family circle.
