Mr Chye was a geography teacher in Pahang Province Malaysia, who became an eminent and expert historian with regard to the British in Malaya. He taught the NMBVA Malaysian Representative Dato’ Ahmad Tejuddin when the Dato’ was a schoolboy.
Mr Chye’s interests led to the writing of the definitive book “The British Battalion in the Malayan Campaign 1941 – 42, about the 2nd Bn East Surrey Regiment and 1st Bn The Leicestershire Regiment regrouped after the invasion by the Japanese to form The British Battalion, fighting the battle of Kampar, before moving to Singapore for the last stand.
He was recognised with the award of the MBE in 2007.
A small party of NMBVA members from Northern Ireland and Mid Ulster Branches were entertained by Mr Chye and his charming Wife in September 2013 at their home. The visitors presented Mr Chye with a NMBVA plaque at the time.
The funeral was from his home on 26th April 2014. He will be missed by all Malaysia veterans.
