NMBVA Mid Ulster Annual Church Service,
St. Gobhan’s Parish Church,
Seagoe, Portadown, County Armagh On Sunday 20th May 2012
Our annual morning service was hosted by Rev’d Canon Terence Cadden and Rev’d Canon Rajkumar Sathyraj.
Guests included Brigadier Robert Thomson DSO MBE, late of The Rifles, Commander of 38 (Irish) Brigade and Captain John Gray Royal Navy, both of whom read lessons. Flight Lieutenant Margaret Irvine and her husband Andrew represented the Royal Air Force.
The Mayor of Craigavon Alderman Alan Carson and the Mayor of Armagh Councillor Freda Donnelly, Lord Ballyedmond’s personal representatives Mr Neal Singer with our very good Gurkha friends Mr Umesh Ale and Mr Narain Gurung.
The church was filled to capacity with NMBVA members, cadets, guests and of course the regular congregation.
Members of the choir directed by Alison Cadden gave a beautiful, moving rendition of “Wherever you are” (Paul Mealor).
An historical address was given by Tony Baker MBE, with Ron Moore reading the poem” Sleep well you Bonnie Lads ” (Patrick Baldwin) in true Shakespearean tones, also the Kohima Prayer.
A pre service slide display, depicting our time in Borneo, accompanied with suitable music was given in the church. Leslie Smallman SBStJ prepared this.
After the service we were delighted to enjoy a sit down luncheon with refreshments, courtesy of the hard-working ladies of the church committee.
