Wayne Richard James (Paddy) Bashford
28 February 1975 – 10th December 2017
Wayne was born into the Bashford military family in Hazlemere, Surrey to Anne and Terry. As a child he lived in Fallingbostel, BAOR West Germany, to Colchester in 1978 then Palace Barracks, Holywood, Northern Ireland to continue his education at Redburn Primary School, then back to BAOR Minden and Verden before returning to Bangor NI in 1987 to finish his education at Holywood High School.
A military career beckoned and he joined the Junior Leaders Regiment Royal Artillery in October 1991 continuing the family tradition. On passing out from JLR RA he was posted to 3 Regiment Royal Horse Artillery serving in Colchester, Topcliffe, Kenya, Cyprus, Armagh NI, USA, BOAR Hohne, Bosnia Glamoc and Bosnia Sanski Most.
During his tour at Topcliffe he met Fee and married in June 1998; they had two children, Bonnie (9) and Bailey (7) as they moved around Europe with the Army.
Wayne transferred to the Adjutant General’s Corps after recovering from a brain tumour and served in Lisburn NI, AGC attached 1 Highlanders/4 Scots in Fallingbostel then Iraq OP TELIC 7 (Al Amarah); 1 RMP, 110 Provost Company OP TELIC 13; 20 Armoured Brigade HQ OP TELIC 15; HQ 19 Light Brigade; 2 Rifles OP HERRICK 17/18 and finally the Defence Academy at Shrivenham.
Despite earlier health problems, Wayne was a dedicated sportsman, playing football and ice hockey for the AGC at corps level. He was a lifetime supporter of, Liverpool FC, Northern Ireland, the Ulster & Ireland Rugby teams and the Belfast Giants ice hockey team.
Wayne who passed away to early aged 42 will be very much missed by his family and friends.
